Early life and career

When she was four, Tonkin attended several dance courses in classical ballet, hip hop, contemporary dance and tap dance. At the age of twelve, she began courses at the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) at the Wharf Theatre. She later graduated from Queenwood School in Balmoral, New South Wales.[2]

Tonkin's first television appearance was on the Australian teen show H2O: Just Add Water, where she played one of the main characters, Cleo Sertori. While not a strong swimmer, she worked to improve her abilities during pre-production of the show.[2] On 20 October 2007, Tonkin appeared on the Nickelodeon UK Kids' Choice Awards, where she presented the award for best band alongside H2O co-stars Claire Holt and Cariba Heine.

Her other credits include appearances on the Australian series Packed to the Rafters and the film Tomorrow, When the War Began, and a guest role on Home and Away in 2010.[3] She has appeared in various commercials, including ones for Vauxhall Motors and Chic Management.

As of 2011, Tonkin stars as Faye Chamberlain in the CW series The Secret Circle, which premiered on 15 September 2011.[4][5] Her performance was well received by critics. She was featured on Variety's list of new faces to watch[6] and named one of 2011 Breakout TV Stars by E! Online.[7]

In 2012, she will shoot the sequel of Tomorrow, When The War Began,[8] and will be in the film Bait and the music video for Miles Fisher's "Don't Let Go".[9][10]

She has also modeled, and has been in various photo shoots for catalogues and magazines such as Girlfriend, Teen Vogue, and Dolly.
